look what's new This year, Page-Walker celebrates 150 years as a Cary landmark! In 1868, Cary was just a small crossroads. But change was in the air with the introduction of regular railroad passenger service. That same year, local entrepreneur Allison Francis "Frank" Page built a fancy French second empire-style hotel right next to the tracks. While some may have considered constructing such a structure in a town of less than 300 a folly, it still stands today and now serves as the Page-Walker Arts & History Center. A year-long celebration of sesquicentennial events kicked off earlier this year and included the release of a new self-guided tour brochure, produced by the Friends of Page-Walker, which is free to visitors of the historic landmark. Programming continues this fall with Historic Cary Trolley Tours, which takes visitors to sites important to Cary's past; Bygone Daze, a day-along history themed festival on September 15, celebrating Page- Walker's Victorian origins with music, dance, carriage rides, crafts, and activities for the kids; and, we will debut new displays that reveal the building's former owners, interesting facts, and telling photos. The year's festivities will conclude at the annual Holiday Open House on December 1 with the old hotel decked out in Victorian Christmas finery, and entertain guests with music, tasty treats, tours, and carriage rides. You are invited to join us at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center for all the excitement this season will bring!
