11 Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Piano Our piano programs offer a solid base in piano theory and technique and provide continuing education options for students as they complete levels designed to build upon each other. Instructors will assign books at first class. Little Piano and Youth & Teen classes culminate in a recital. Fall 2018 Recital: December 3 (time TBD) at Page-Walker Arts & History Center Primer A (age 13–17) These classes are the foundation and starting point of any piano curriculum; students learn sight reading, notes, five-finger patterns, beats and rhythms, and play with both hands along both clefs in an enthusiastic small group setting. Location: Page-Walker Arts & History Center Instructor: Baxter Smith Fees: $110(R) $140(N) (10 classes) 118073 Mon Sep 10–Nov 26 8-9 p.m. (no class Nov 12, Nov 19) Popular Piano (age 11–17) Do something cool with your piano skills! Learn to chord popular music while mastering piano theory, polish your performance skills, and build your confidence. This class is appropriate for teens who have completed Primer level classes, know their scales, and want to try something new. Keyboards are provided. Class culminates with a recital. Location: Page-Walker Arts & History Center Instructor: Nita Key Enrichment Fees: $132 (R) $150 (N) (6 classes) 116802 Tue Sep 4–Oct 9 6–7 p.m. 116803 Tue Oct 16–Nov 27 6–7 p.m. (no class Nov 20) Dance Combo (age 11 –17) Build strength and technique through warm-ups, floor progressions, and combinations that feature foundations and choreography from multiple dance styles. MODERN & LYRICAL Location: Cary Arts Center Instructor: Lauren Grow Fees: $115(R) $145(N) (9 classes) 116149 Fri Sep 14–Nov 9 7–8 p.m. Voice Vocal Enrichment: Solfege to Stage (age 11–17) Have fun while learning to sing! Learn the Solfege method, which develops the ear to recognize notes, in a supportive group setting. Learn theory, breathing techniques, and melodic method, while performing popular music. You'll also polish your performance skills and build your overall confidence. Class culminates with a recital.
