13 Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Softball NTC Academy—Softball Pitching Clinic (age 11–18) This clinic is for players who have been pitchers. Instructors will teach players the proper pitching progression. By the end of the clinic, pitchers will be executing full pitches to catchers. The focus will be on the fastball and change-up. We will focus on positioning, moving to the ball, blocking, framing, and throwing. We will also discuss and execute proper warm-up and cooldown techniques to aid in injury prevention. Get an edge on the competition! Location: USA Baseball National Training Complex Instructor: Town of Cary Strength & Conditioning Instructor Fees: $54(R), $65 (N) (2 classes) 117146 TBA TBA NTC Academy—Hitting Skills & Techniques (age 14–18) This clinic is designed to teach experienced players and will include instructional drills and batting cage practice. Topics include the fundamentals of hitting, such as stance, hitting position, balance, bat path, bat speed, and follow-through; opposite field hitting; and hitting for power. Location: USA Baseball National Training Complex Instructor: Town of Cary Baseball Instructors Fees: 27(R) $35(N) (1 class) 117159 Thu Nov 1 6:30–8 p.m. Basketball Preseason Basketball Clinic (age 11–17) Want to learn some new moves? Want to polish up or improve your skills before tryouts? Want to become a smarter basketball player this season? This class is for the player who wants to become better at defense, dribbling, shooting, and passing. Coach Williams is a USA Basketball certified youth development coach. Location: Middle Creek Community Center Instructor: Gary Williams Fees: $101(R) $131(N) (1 class) 116545 Wed Oct 31 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Fencing Beginning Fencing Level I (age 11–17) Students will be introduced to the Olympic sport of fencing in a fun and challenging environment. The focus will be on learning the basics, including footwork and blade skills needed for bouting. An annual $10 USA Fencing membership must also be purchased. All required equipment is provided.
