OUTDOOR RECREATION PART TWO 88 REGISTER ONLINE: classweb.townofcary.org Boating Skills & Seamanship (age 14 & up) Presented by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, this course applies to new boat owners and experienced boaters wanting to expand their knowledge. Topics include nautical language, types of boats, powerboat handling, safety and legal requirements, navigation rules, inland boating, and more. Location: Cary Senior Center Instructor: Ronald Sanders Fees: Participants pay instructor $55 at first class for textbook and handouts. (11 classes) 119233 Mon Mar 4–May 13 6–8:30 p.m. Canoeing Beginner Canoeing (age 10 & up) Learn basic paddling and safety skills for tandem canoeing in this short introductory course. Course covers personal preparation, equipment choices, and strokes essential to efficient paddling in a Bond Lake-type environment. Approximately half the time will be spent on the water. Canoe rental is included. Location: Fred G. Bond Metro Park, Boathouse Instructor: Program Staff Fees: $39(R) $51(N) (1 class) 119269 Sat May 4 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Open Archery Range (age 10 & up) This session is available to those who have attended a Town of Cary archery program and have been issued a Range Safety Pass. Location: Bond Park Community Center Instructor: Program Staff Fees: $8 per session Tue Mar 19—May 21 5:30–7 p.m. Intro to Archery (age 10 & up) Learn the basics of archery, including setting up a bow, shooting, safety, and scoring. All equipment will be provided. No prior experience is needed. Dress appropriately for outdoor weather. All equipment will be provided. No prior experience is needed. Dress appropriately for outdoor weather. Location: Bond Park Community Center Instructor: Program Staff Fees: $25(R) $33(N) (1 class) 119255 Sun Mar 3 1–3 p.m. Boating Paddle the Park Tour (age 13 & up) Explore Bond Park Lake with a boating instructor and a naturalist. As you canoe or kayak, learn about beavers, turtles, and other wildlife. No experience needed. Paddling practice is at 7 p.m.; nature tour is at 7:30 p.m. Canoe and kayak rental is included.
