All classes take place at Stevens Nature Center at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve unless other noted. Young Ecologists (age 10–13) Build your confidence and make new friends as you expand your knowledge and appreciation of the environment. Each session combines a field excursion with a classroom session relevant to a specific nature topic. Equipment provided. Fees: $8(R) $10(N) (1 class) DISCOVERING CREEK WILDLIFE Explore Swift Creek as we search for snakes, salamanders, turtles, and more. 124933 Sat Aug 10 10 a.m.-noon Hemlock Nature Quest (age 13–15) Think you've seen everywhere at Hemlock Bluffs? Think again! Journey to the far corners of the Preserve on a quest to find nature rarely seen by the public. Dress for the weather and off-trail conditions. And, of course, bring your sense of adventure! Hemlock Nature Quest participants are eligible to volunteer as program assistants for our younger nature programs. Fees: $8(R) $10(N) (1 class) SUMMER WILDLIFE SURVEY Search for salamanders, crayfish, snakes, and other summer wildlife. Kayaking for Teens (age 11–17) An introduction to kayaking, this three-hour class covers the basics including safety, proper stroke technique, braces, wet exiting, and rescues. The class is taught by a certified British Canoe Union Instructor. Kayak rental is included. Location: Fred G.
