April Barbara Rizza Mellin: Temporary Beauty | Asian Brush Painting Town Hall Gallery April 24–July 24 Artist Reception: Friday, April 24 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Watercolor/Ink Asian brush painting is the simple elegance of the natural subjects, plus the real and apparent spontaneity of the process. Less is more. A few strokes can capture the beauty of a blossom or the fragility of a falling leaf. Mellin creates each image at one sitting, with no preliminary drawing and very little overpainting or modification. The idea is to capture the natural essence of the image rather than a detailed botanical copy. Marie Wright: Crystalline Glazed Porcelain Pottery Page-Walker Arts & History Center March 11–April 11 Artist Reception: Friday, March 27 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Porcelain View exquisitely crafted porcelain forms delicately glazed with unique crystalline glazes sure to delight the eye. Zeynep Guvenc: Magical Colors Dancing on Water Herbert C. Young Community Center Gallery March 27–May 23 Artist Reception: Friday, March 27 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Water Marbling on Paper Water marbling, also known as Ebru in Turkish, is an art for creating colorful patterns on water by sprinkling and brushing color pigments. After you paint your artwork on special water surface, it is transferred on to paper. Guvenc states "The ebru art is like being in another world: it calms your spirit, helps you discover yourself, and gain a new perspective about life." Magdalena Scholle: The Culture of Tea and Coffee Cary Arts Center Gallery March 27–May 22 Artist Reception: Friday, March 27 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Oil Paintings This series of representational still life oil paintings examine the culture of tea and coffee. The subject is closely connected to the artist's personal history and influenced by her enjoyment of these two drinks. Scholle says, "Tea and coffee have been my companions at various stages of my life and I cannot imagine my years of studying and teaching philosophy and, more recently, building up my art skills without them."
