10 Winter/Spring 2020 Cary Senior Center Arts & Crafts FAMILIAR FACES DRAWING WORKSHOP Improve your drawings of familiar faces with this workshop. Learn about feature placement, the use of negative space and shading to create a more realistic head study using a variety of graphite media. Bring a close up photo copy of your favorite face (no originals or electronics, please) and 9x12 sketchbook for preliminary drawings. The use of other materials will be provided. Sat Apr 25 3–5:30 p.m. 002419 Fees: $15(R) $20(N) (1 class) DECORATIVE LETTERING WORKSHOP With this beginning workshop, students will learn about the traditional lettering style of Chancery. Using the essential tools of calligraphy, India ink, dip pen and a variety of pen nib points, students will practice this letterform and have fun applying this style to a variety of stationary projects. The use of tools and materials is included in the $2 supply fee. Sat May 30 noon–2:30 p.m. 002418 Fees: $15(R) $20(N) (1 class) DRAWING Creating Fine Art with Colored Pencils 50+ Colored pencils are a wonderful medium for drawing and painting. In this class you will learn how to use colored pencils as a fine art medium. The instructor will introduce the basics of colored pencil such as pencil strokes, layering and burnishing techniques. Working from photos, you will complete one or more paintings of a subject of your choice of flowers, fruits, glass, metal and more. All levels are welcome. Class and individual instruction will be provided. With this introduction to drawing basics, students will learn elements of drawing while completing fun exercises to build confidence in creative abilities. Use contour lines, shading values and negative space to complete a more realistic graphite drawing of everyday objects. Bring a 9x12†(or similar) spiral sketchbook. Sat Mar 7–14 noon–2:30 p.m. 002415 Fees: $29(R) $38(N) (2 classes) COLORFUL COLLAGE & INK Using permanent ink, tissue paper, mod podge and a variety of decorative papers, students will embellish a contour drawing of flowers or birds in the larger than life style of Georgia O'Keeffe. Have fun completing an original 2D paper collage full of color! $2 fee to purchase canvas board from instructor. Bring a 9x12 sketchbook for preliminary drawings, use of other materials will be provided.
