Once called "sewage plants" then "wastewater treatment facilities"
and more recently "water reclamation facilities," Cary owns and
operates three of them: the North Cary, South Cary, and Western
Wake Regional Water Reclamation Facilities (WRF). They have
a combined total capacity to treat up to 42.8 million gallons of
wastewater per day (MGD) and are staffed 24 hours a day,
365 days a year.
All our facilities use a biological process that removes nutrients, such
as phosphorus and nitrogen, from the wastewater to ensure treated
wastewater is safely returned to local waterways. We lead the state
in preserving and protecting the environment by treating wastewater
to a high level and are proud that all three facilities are recognized
and designated by the state of North Carolina as Exceptional
Facilities for meeting and exceeding permit requirements. We are
members of the American Water Works Association's Partnership for
Clean Water and are committed to optimizing wastewater treatment
and energy use at each facility.
THE FOLLOWING CHARTS ARE A SUMMARY OF PERMIT
COMPLIANCE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR (FY) 2023 REPORTING
PERIOD OF JULY 1, 2022 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2023.
WE ARE PLEASED TO REPORT THAT NO PERMIT LIMIT
VIOL ATION OCCURRED DURING THIS REPORTING PERIOD.
