1. Sickness, bodily injury, medical appointments, exams and treatment, or other similar reasons. 2. Temporarily care for an immediate family member who is ill; normally limited to 12 weeks. 3. Death in the employee's immediate family (5 days) or the death of a close relative (3 days). 4. Supplement worker's compensation pay. 5. For parents adopting a child; up to eighty (80) hours used singly or jointly by parents. There is no maximum on sick leave balance and sick leave is never paid out. Sick leave may be used towards years of service for retirement from the local government employee retirement system. SICK LEAVE TRANSFERS Cary also accepts sick leave balances from employees who have prior service with a participant in either the North Carolina Local Government Retirement System (LGERS) or the North Carolina Teachers and State Retirement System (TSERS) in accordance with LGERS. An eligible employee must provide a letter, signed by the previous employer's HR department, with their sick leave balance in hours and days to Cary HR. LEAVE MY WAY PLUS Regular, benefited employees, as defined by Cary's Personnel Ordinance, are eligible to accrue Leave My Way Plus (LMW+) during their 15th and 25th consecutive, regular years of service with Cary. At the beginning of the employee's 15th consecutive, regular year of service and the employee's 25th consecutive, regular year of service, an eligible employee will accrue 10 days of LMW+ per month for the next 12 consecutive months in each of those years. LMW + for employees working an approved, benefited, regular, part-time schedule of less than 40 hours per week will be prorated as applicable. LMW+ will not be: • Eligible for payout at separation or retirement • Counted toward creditable years of service for retirement, consistent with NCLGERS • Eligible for to use in lieu of a two-week notice and cannot be used on an employee's last day of work prior to separation or retirement More information can be found in the Leave My Way Plus Guidelines. HOLIDAY LEAVE Cary provides 13 paid holidays: New Year's Day; Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday; Good Friday; Memorial Day; Juneteenth; Independence Day; Labor Day; Veteran's Day; Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday); and Christmas (three working days). SICK LEAVE A benefit eligible employee earns one day per month (12 days per year) of sick leave. Sick leave can be used for the following reasons:
