Pump stations are situated in low-lying areas and are
designed to capture wastewater from gravity fed pipelines
and pump it to higher elevations.
While most of Cary's wastewater system is comprised of
gravity pipelines, pump stations and force mains provide a
critical step in keeping wastewater flowing.
Scheduled to open in 2024, the construction of Winding Pine
Pump Station (PS) represents Cary's commitment and forward
thinking approach to expanding critical utilities infrastructure to
meet the needs of Cary and surrounding utility customers. With
a design capacity of 10.6 million gallons per day, Winding Pine
PS will provide additional wastewater capacity to western Cary,
the Wake County portion of Research Triangle Park and Chatham
County. Once operational, the adjacent Kit Creek Pump Station,
in service since the early 1990s, will be decommissioned.
