C A RY, N O RT H C A R O L I N A A N N U A L WAT E R Q U A L I T Y R E P O R T 2 0 24 2 WE ARE PLEASED TO PRESENT CARY'S ANNUAL CONSUMER CONFIDENCE REPORT, A DESCRIPTION OF THE QUALIT Y OF WATER WE DELIVER TO OUR COMMUNIT Y. We are honored to provide high-quality, safe, and reliable water services to our community, which includes the citizens of Cary, Morrisville, Wake County's portion of Research Triangle Park, and the RDU Airport. It is our top priority. A N O T H E R V E RY R E WA R D I N G Y E A R F O R C A RY 'S WAT E R SYS T E M Cary's water system and staff provided another year of outstanding service in 2024, delivering 8.4 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water to over 300,000 citizens in our service area. Our water was recognized at both the state and national levels, including being named as one of the best tasting waters in North Carolina. To support our mission of excellence, hundreds of thousands of water quality tests were performed this year, ensuring the finished water met and/or exceeded regulatory standards as it moved through over 1,100 miles of pipe from the treatment facility to individual taps. S E RV I N G T H E C O M M U N I T Y Highlighting our commitment to innovation and service reliability, Cary launched our Water Meter Replacement program last year to modernize our advanced meter infrastructure. In 2024, we replaced 8,900 aging first-generation meters. This ongoing initiative enhances operational efficiency to ensure accurate, dependable water service for our customers. 2024 was also the first full year that we utilized biofiltration as part of our drinking water treatment process. This process was retrofitted to existing infrastructure and has outperformed conventional filtration, reducing both organic and inorganic contaminants. Currently 35% of our filters are biologically active and conversion will continue in stages until all filters have been upgraded. Cary's water system staff remain vigilant in preparing for upcoming regulatory changes. In September 2024, we completed our service line inventory to comply with the upcoming Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. We also continued our proactive testing and treatment efforts for perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and 1,4-dioxane. These efforts have ensured that Cary's finished drinking water remains well below EPA guidelines for these substances. In closing, please know that our team remains steadfast in our mission to deliver drinking water that goes beyond compliance — water that is safe, great- tasting, and reliably delivered through a carefully maintained system. We hope this report provides continued confidence in the quality of your drinking water. Ryan Lambert Cary/Apex Water Treatment Facility Manager Betsy Drake, P.E.
