Outdoor Recreation Outdoor Recreation Healthy Hikers FREE Have you ever thought about taking up hiking as a hobby, but you have no clue where to start, or have you been hiking for years and are interested in joining a group. This is your chance to meet up with other hiking enthusiast and enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer. More information about the locations is available at registration. Limited sets of hiking poles are available to borrow on a first come first serve basis for scheduled day hikes. This group does NOT meet at the Cary Senior Center parking lot. Please obtain park meet up location at the front desk of the center prior to hike. Location: William B. Covers personal preparation, equipment choices, and strokes essential to efficient paddling in a Bond Lake type environment. Approximately 1/2 the time will be spent on the water. Canoe rental is included. Location: Fred G. Bond Metro Park Instructor: Lynn Wright, ACA Certified Fees: $18(R) $23(N) (per 2 classes) 72682 Mon/Tues April 28-29 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. 72683 Mon/Tues May 19-20 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Kayaking for Seniors An introduction to kayaking, this 3 hour class covers the basics of the sport including safety, proper stroke technique, braces, wet exiting, and rescues. The class is taught by a certified British Canoe Union Instructor. Kayak rental is included. Location: Fred G. Bond Metro Park Instructor:Wes Hall Fees: $26(R) $34(N) 72684 Thu May 8 (1 class) 9 a.m.-noon Open Play Table Tennis provides players the opportunity to compete Open Play Table Tennis against others of similar abilities while promoting physical fitness. The fee per session is $4 for Cary residents, $6 for nonresidents. Cary Residents 55+ participate at no charge. Pay as you go or save money by purchasing an open gym pass. Players must play in the appropriate level session according to the following USATT rating. Beginner = nrated players, or rated players with 999 or fewer rating U points; Intermediate = Players with 1000 –1499 rating points; Advanced = Players with 1500+ rating points.
