Arts & Crafts Gallery Exhibitions JANUARY Visions of Carolina Danced in my Head, Laura Simmons Cary Senior Center Medium: Photography Exhibit open Monday, January 13 – Friday, February 21 Artists' Reception Friday, January 31, 6-8 p.m. What we perceive is not simply a matter of what we see with our eyes, but rather a complex combination of our senses, emotions, experiences, and memories. Because of this, a straight photograph doesn't always match our perceptions. I am not a native Southerner, but immediately I fell in love with the lush greenery, the dramatic storms, the glimpses of past lives in the crumbling barns and broken machinery, and the celebrations and festivities. There is a delightful mix of modern life and life reminiscent of simpler times against a backdrop of inordinate beauty. With my altered photographs, I try to convey not simply a record of what I saw, but rather a world of possibility and how I like to remember it.
