Taught by veteran bluegrass musicians, this camp will build and develop musical skills while encouraging confidence, creativity and collaboration. Camps culminate with a public performance June 27. Co-sponsored by PineCone (www.pinecone.org). All campers must provide their own instruments. All Music camps take place at Page-Walker Arts & History Center. Instructors: Jan Johansson – Guitar Pattie Hopkins – Fiddle Charles Pettee – Mandolin Lynda Dawson – Songwriting Fees: $93(R) $121(N) (5 classes) Beginner Bluegrass Guitar Grab your guitar and learn all the basics: tuning, basic chord shapes and patterns, basic rhythm patterns, basic right-hand technique, care and feeding of your guitar, and practice tips. During the week participants will learn a tune or two for the culminating performance. Knowledge of guitar tablature is helpful, but not necessary. 75648 Mon-Fri Jun 23-27 9 a.m.-noon T1 Beginner Bluegrass Mandolin Learn all the basics: how to hold your mandolin, tune it, hold the pick, pick direction, how to practice, play solos, chords, double stops, bluegrass repertoire, left and right hand tech- nique and coordination, how to listen and what to listen for, and play with others. Knowledge of mandolin tablature is helpful, but not required. 75649 Mon-Fri Jun 23-27 9 a.m.-noon T1 Beginner Bluegrass Fiddle No experience required or for those who play but are not yet comfortable with the basics of tuning, bowing and finding notes on a fingerboard this class is for you! Just bring your fiddle and have a great time. 75643 Mon-Fri Jun 23-27 9 a.m.-noon T1 Beginner Bluegrass Songwriting Students will learn tips for capturing and generating song ideas, how to express ideas through music and lyrics, and how to construct a song. Participants will brainstorm, write, revise, and construct their own songs. 75647 Mon-Fri Jun 23-27 1-4 p.m. T1 Performing Arts Bluegrass Camp fees listed are for each half-day (5 class) program.
