The collection of project submissions vied for Honor and Merit Awards as part of an annual professional program designed to recognize and encourage exceptional design work in the field of architecture. For more www. aiatriangle.org Michael Roy Layne – Nature+Culture: Forms and Forces in Environmental Art Cary Arts Center Gallery Friday, May 30-Saturday, July 19 Artist's Reception: Friday, May 30, 6-8 p.m. Gallery Talk: Sunday, July 20, 4 p.m. Media: Pencil illustrations, photographs, and installation Installed temporarily indoors or out (installation art), or created per - manently (environmental sculpture), his large-scale artworks focus on the interaction between people and their environment and of- ten spotlight environmental concerns or employ aesthetically en- gineered solutions to solve ecological problems. Trained as a land- scape architect and researcher as well as an artist, Dr. Layne's sculptured spaces encourage people to interact with and respond to the physical environment in personal and social ways, and provide the individual or whole community a chance to be involved in the creative process. His approach insures that the final artwork pro - tects and improves the natural and cultural systems present on the site, and provides for continued community building opportunities of ritual and celebration.
