12 Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources CONCERTS Summer Sertoma Series Sertoma Amphitheatre is one of Cary's best kept secrets, nestled away inside Bond Park. This intimate venue is a perfect setting for summer concerts. Come early for a seat, or pack your own portable chair. Please note: food and leashed pets are permitted, but please leave alcoholic beverages at home. Concerts may be cancelled or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. All concerts are free. Old North State Brass Saturday, June 7 | 7 p.m. | Free This 12-member group of brass players and a percussionist are de- lighted to bring their music to the Sertoma Amphitheatre. In addition to original music for chamber brass groups, Old North State Brass offers arrangements of swing-era tunes, novelty numbers, marches, and solos featuring members of the ensemble. Brown has been playing banjo, piano, gui- tar, and fiddle since childhood and besides being a great musician, Paul is a reporter for NPR in Washington. He produced and hosted the popular music program, Across the Blue Ridge. McMurray has played banjo uke since childhood and has developed a driving, up - beat backup style for dance music. Performers include 86 year-old blues songster Boo Hanks and North Carolina ace guitarist/singer Lightnin' Wells. Boo Hanks is the greatest Piedmont Blues rediscovery in many years. He sings and plays guitar in the style of the legendary Blind Boy Fuller. Mike "Lightnin" Wells breathes new life into the vintage tunes of the 1920s and depression era America, employing various stringed instruments in a dynamic style developed over thir - ty years of experience.
