In Clothes We Remember: Jan-Ru Wan Cary Arts Center Gallery Friday, August 29-Sunday, October 26 Artist's Reception: Friday, August 29, 6-8 p.m. Gallery Talk: Friday, August 29, 6:30 p.m. Medium: Mixed installation Cloths and clothes may be one of the most meaningful objects in our lives: they wrap us when we are born, protect and decorate us in our daily activities, and cover us when we are departing from this world. Moreover, cloths and clothes also carry so much memory and emo - tion, and bring us a sense of security and even pride, either in our consciousness or sub-consciousness. In this exhibition, installation artist Jan-Ru Wan uses silk, clothes from the past, and a variety of clothing objects to provoke responses from the viewers and resonate with their own feelings. Wan combines the multiplicity of small im - ages, details, and forms to construct her art work by revealing the in- dividual and the universal simultaneously. The discrepancy between the materials is wedded alchemically to produce a new harmony - the balance of the chaotic, the sublime and the beautiful.
