SPECIAL EVENTS (919) 469-4061 www.townofcary.org 5 AUGUST 38th Annual Lazy Daze Arts FREE & Crafts Festival Saturday, August 23 | 9-5 p.m. Downtown Cary Lazy Daze is the highest ranked one day festival in the Nation for Classic & Contemporary Craft Shows by Sunshine Artist Magazine. The tradition continues, as one of North Carolina's premier arts and crafts festival marks its 38th year! The Festival is a signature event for the Town of Cary, annually welcoming more than 50,000 peo - ple into the historic downtown to experience an amazing array of exceptional arts and crafts. While the Festival has grown tremen- dously in size and stature, it remains true to its core commitment of bringing the highest quality art, concessions and entertainment to Cary's downtown. In fact, Lazy Daze has become an annual tra- dition by showcasing outstanding downtown businesses and bring- ing superior artists from across the nation to the citizens of Cary. Lazy Daze is a big-time festival that maintains its small-town roots. Festival proceeds are dedicated to supporting arts activities, down- town and Town of Cary initiatives. It's a fun day for the entire family – arts and crafts, food, Kid's World and two huge stages with enter- tainment all day. Cary Youth Video Project Premiere at Lazy Daze Saturday, August 23 | 1-2 p.m. The Cary Theater The Cary Youth Video Project is an award-winning summer course in documentary filmmaking for teens. The premiere will feature origi- nal documentaries that explore various topics in and around the Triangle. The young filmmakers will be present to talk about their films and answer questions. Lazy Daze AUGUST As You Like It Cary Arts Center Saturday, August 9 | 7:30 p.m. Sunday, August 10 | 3 p.m. Tickets: $10-$15 Young artists from the Philharmonic Association and International Ballet Company are teaming up for a performance of music and choreography inspired by the works of William Shakespeare—fea- turing the premier of Michael Daugherty's ballet As You Like It, as well as original choreography set to other pieces inspired by Shakespeare. www.philharmonic-association.org or (919) 645- 8434. Philharmonic Association Summer Session Concerts Cary Arts Center Monday, August 11 | 6 & 7:45 p.m. Donations accepted at the door. At 6 p.m., the Triangle Youth String Orchestra will present a short performance of the literature learned during the summer ses- sion. At 7:45 p.m., the Triangle Jazz Ensemble II, followed by the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble, will play big band selections show- casing a wide selection of jazz favorites. Community Cultural Calendar Cary Photographic Artists Area photographers gather each month for a sharing and a feature presentation by noted local photographers. Cary Photographic Artists meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Downtown at The Cary. Cary Playwrights Forum The Cary Playwrights' Forum helps playwrights and aspir- ing playwrights of Cary and the surrounding areas in North Carolina to develop as dramatic writers. We offer regular feedback sessions with other playwrights, actors, and di- rectors; the opportunity to collaborate in staged readings or productions of their original work; and educational class- es and workshops. Fine Arts League of Cary Take in a monthly art lecture/presentation featuring accom- plished artists of various disciplines.
