Instruction will include proper footwork, how to track trajectory, how to play the fence, approach on grounders, communication, and reducing get-and-go time. Throwing tech- nique will also be covered to teach players how to increase the strength and distance of throws from the outfield. Participants will learn proper footwork and ball handling skills for these crucial roles in the fastpitch game. Players will learn tips on ways to reduce the amount of time it takes to get the ball where it needs to go and how to cover bases for various game situations. Partici- pants will learn proper footwork and ball handling skills, approach on bunted and short balls and how to move to the short and deep pops. Players will learn how to position for balls that are thrown from other players for both a force or a tag play. Location: Thomas Brooks Park, Field 6 Instructor: Town of Cary Softball Instructors Fees: $27(R) $35(N) (1 class) Middle School Players – Rising grade 6th-8th 77016 Tue Jul 22 6:30- 8 p.m. High School Players – Rising grade 9th-12th 77017 Tue Jul 22 6:30- 8 p.m. Softball Bunting and Slapping Clinic (age 11-18) Participants of this clinic will learn proper mechan- ics and technique for successfully executing all variations of the bunt and the slap. The clinic will include tee work as well as hitting off of live pitch- ing. Players will also learn how to reduce time out of the batters box as a result of proper footwork. Location: Thomas Brooks Park Instructor: Town of Cary Softball Instructors Fees: $27(R) $35(N) (1 class) Middle School Players – Rising grade 6th-8th 77010 Mon Jul 21 7:30-9 p.m. High School Players – Rising grade 9th-12th 77011 Mon Jul 21 7:30-9 p.m. Softball Situational Camp (age 11-18) At this two-day camp, players will learn position- specific skills for defensive play. Instructors will teach participants how to respond to many of the situational elements of the game and walk through proper execution. The camp will culminate with a walk-through scrimmage with live pitching and base running. Instruc- tion will be modified for each participant's level of play and skills are applied to game situations.
