90 Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources PERFORMING ARTS Music Instruction All Music Instruction courses take place at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center guITAR Beginning Guitar (age 12 & up) Learn how to accompany yourself, play scales and melodies, read music and play some songs by ear in this fun and relaxing course. An acoustic guitar and Guitar Method 1 by Aaron Stang are required. No prior guitar experience necessary. Ready to take you playing to the next level? Try new songs with exercises in rhythm, melody, harmony and listening, while studying form, expression and timbre. Learn advanced chords and playing styles. An acoustic guitar and Guitar Method 2 by Aaron Stang are required. Learn the basics, including notes, rhythms, chords, ear train- ing and simple songs. The class culminates with a short recital. Instructor: Baxter Smith Fees: $105(R) $135(N) (10 classes) 78884 Wed Sep 10-Nov 12 4:30-5:30 p.m. 78885 Wed Sep 10-Nov 12 5:40-6:40 p.m. Level II Piano (age 7-12) Expand your skills in Level II Piano! This class is for those who have completed the Beginning Piano or an equivalent multi-week course. The small class size ensures individual attention from the instructor. The class culminates with a short recital. Instructor: Baxter Smith Fees: $105(R) $135(N) (10 classes) 78886 Wed Sep 10-Nov 12 6:50-7:50 p.m. 78887 Thu Sep 11-Nov 13 4:30-5:30 p.m. Progressive Piano (age 7-12) This course is designed for students at any skill level with at least six months of piano experience (or by approval of instructor). The small class size ensures individual attention from the instructor. Early registration allows us time to plan appropriately. Often we are able to accommodate those on waiting lists by adding additional spots in the class or adding additional classes. Classes that do not meet their minimum enrollment are generally cancelled; you could make the difference. All piano students should purchase Bastien Piano Basics: Piano Primer Level prior to the first class. Progressive Piano students should bring sheet music to the first class to determine skill level. Beginning and Level II classes will culmi- nate with a recital on Wednesday, November 19 at 5:30 p.m.
