You'll continue your lifelong learning through informative and educational nature walks that are focused on seasonal plant and wildlife activity. May involve some slow walking on steps. Fees: $6(R) $8(N) (1 class) • BIRDS AND BUDS Join us as we cover winter plants and birds. Binoculars can be provided. 81533 Sat Apr 25 9–10:30 a.m. • BIRDING BY EAR 2 Continue to enjoy spring migrants and nesting birds. Binoculars can be provided. 81534 Sat May 9 9–10:30 a.m. Night Out in Nature (age 8–12) Kids are dropped off to spend a night out in nature! Our adventures will encourage the understanding and appreciation of the natural world at night. This old- fashioned camp-style program includes nature activities and crafts, night hikes, and campfire snacks around the fire pit. Each program has a different nature topic. Fees: $18(R) $23(N) (1 class) 82485 Fri Feb 13 6–9 p.m. 82486 Fri Mar 6 6–9 p.m. 82487 Fri Apr 17 6–9 p.m. Teen Nature Young Ecologists (age 10–13) Participants will build confidence and make new friends while expanding their knowledge and appreciation of the environment. Each session is primarily a field excursion with a classroom session relevant to a specific nature topic. Equipment provided. Children are dropped off for these programs. Fees: $12(R) $16(N) (1 class) • NIGHT ADVENTURES! Explore the preserve as the sun goes down in search of owls, deer, snakes and more! Bring a flashlight! 82505 Sun Apr 12 6:30–8:30 p.m. • STREAM SEARCH We'll search Swift Creek for fish, snakes, frogs, crayfish and more. Equipment provided. 82506 Sun May 10 2–4 p.m. Hemlock Nature Quest (age 13–15) Think you have seen all of Hemlock Bluffs? Journey to far corners of the preserve to find nature rarely seen by others! Dress for the weather and off-trail conditions, and bring your sense of adventure! (HNQ participants are eligible to volunteer as program assistants for our younger nature programs.) Fees: $12(R) $16(N) (1 class) • FLYING SQUIRREL AND BIRD BOX CHECK Join us for our annual check of wildlife boxes as we focus on owls, flying squirrels and more! 82507 Sun Jan 18 2–4 p.m. • SALAMANDER AND FROG SURVEY Assist staff with off-trail biological surveys for salamanders and frogs. Equipment provided. 82508 Sun Mar 1 2–4 p.m.
