50 January–May 2015 Cary Senior Center Fun & Games Mah Jongg This ancient Chinese game is both fun and challenging. If you have your own playing set, you may want to bring it. Limited space; register early! Bring Up-to- date score card. It can be obtained from the National Mah Jongg League website: www.nationalmahjonggleague.org. Program takes place January 23-May 29. Location: Classroom 303 80543 Every Friday 9-11:30 a.m. (no meeting 4/3) • MILITARY MAH JONGG The Military version of this ancient Chinese game is both fun and challenging. Developed so that Air Force spouses all over the world could play by the same rules as they were transferred to new locations, it varies a little from the traditional game in that it is slower paced and easy-going. Rule books with hands are available at cost ($5-7). Rule books do not change yearly. If you have your own playing set, you may want to bring it. NOT a "class" but an opportunity to play and hone your skills. If you already play "traditional" MJ, we can help you learn the differences so you can enjoy this version also. Program takes place January 26-May 18. Location: Classroom 303 80544 Every Monday 5- 8 p.m. Open Jam Bring your acoustic instrument and desire to meet others who love folk music! This weekly group is open to anyone with an interest in music and having a great time. Singers and audience members are welcome as well! Program takes place January 21- May 27. Location: Classroom 302 80545 Every Wednesday 7- 9 p.m. 50 + 50 + Drop-in Activities FREE Drop-In Activities are available to adults 55 plus to enjoy onsite while the center is open to the public. HORSESHOES Challenge your friends to a fun and friendly game of horseshoes. You can even practice for your next competition or outing. Check out shoes from the front desk and use one or both pits in the courtyard. BOCCE Bocce is one of the most popular precision sports played throughout the world. Hone your skills without leaving the Center. Check out a bocce set from the front desk and play in the courtyard. JIGSAW PUZZLES Lend a hand with the most current public jigsaw puzzle. There are many puzzles on hand to maximize fun and enjoyment. Help with one piece or do it all yourself. Do as little or as much as you want. PUZZLE BOOKS A variety of puzzle books are available for use only in the Media Center. Try your hand at Sudoku, word finds, crossword puzzles and more. Senior Tennis Appreciation Day Wednesday, May 6 Cary Tennis Park Cary Tennis Park and Western Wake Tennis Association will host a Senior Appreciation Day on Wednesday, May 6, 9 a.m. to noon. All senior players in the Western Wake area are invited to participate, no charge. Preregistration information will be available in March. For more, call (919) 469-4081.
