Work has begun on the Children's Nature Trail, which is a result of the grant to the Friends of Hemlock Bluffs to help further environmental education opportunities. Adult nature programming experienced a 5% increase in participants and 7% increase in revenue for this quarter over the same quarter in 2014. Weekday youth nature programs increased revenue 49% and increased participation by 40% FYI Nature & Environment Cary Teen Council Teen volunteers at Cary Teen Council events Teen volunteers at Community Events Total Teen Volunteer Hours from Jan-Mar 2015 369 471 2832 Total Teen Volunteers from Jan-Mar 2015 1126 1st Annual Share & Care Event Held at Herb Young Community Center on February 13, citizens were able to discover what the community has to offer individuals with disabilities, their loved ones, and caregivers. Close to two dozen service providers were in attendance, as well as representatives from organizations, businesses, assistive services and other resources. The Town partnered with Endless Sports and Bridge II Sports to host the second annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament to increase awareness for adaptive sports. Eleven teams participated in this event, which raised $1,600 to purchase specialized equipment for adaptive sports participants. Community Center participation increased over 7% with an additional 1,003 participants for the quarter. Open Gym participation increased 20% from the same period in 2014. Cary Arts Center The Arts Center hosted the 17th annual African American Celebration in February, featuring a "Children's Village" and live entertainment, as well as the North Carolina Arts Council and Creative Capital Professional Development Workshops for NC artists. Over twenty participants from across NC were in attendance for 3 days in downtown Cary. The Marvelous Music Series presented 3 sell-out concerts during this quarter and the Family Series featured two shows. The "Build-A-Band Concert with the Triangle Wind Ensemble" allowed audience members to learn the workings of a concert band and participate in the music making.
