Applause! Cary Youth Theatre was presented the 2014 NC Theatre Conference Award, a state-wide honor for excellence in delivering quality educational programs and meeting community needs. Constance Welsh Theatre for Youth Award The season kicked-off at the end of March with the 2nd Annual Beer and Bacon Festival, which exceeded budget projections and showed overall improvement compared with 2014. Announced nine major national acts will be performing during the 15th season, including: Weird Al Yankovic, Peter Frampton & Cheap Trick, Old Crowe Medicine Show, Alabama Shakes, Jim Gaffigan, Robert Plant, Gregg Allman & the Doobie Brothers, Culture Club and the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Page-Walker Arts & History Center The Cary Downtown Theater completes first full year of operations! As part of the annual Dreamfest Celebration, the Cary Theater hosted Mrs. Naomi King, sister- in-law of Martin Luther King, Jr. The main box office is now at the Cary Theater with regular daytime operating hours! Remember! More details on the Theater website! Page-Walker hosted the Fine Arts League of Cary's Annual Juried Show. Although the opening was delayed due to weather, over 100 people attended and the overall exhibition quality showed improvement over past exhibitions. The Friends of Page- Walker's Preservation Series brough Paul Klamer, Video Supervisor of the Library of Congress to a program for the Town. New doors, roofing and five HVAC units were installed, which included the reallocation and redesign of office administrative space inside the Page-Walker. Public Art & Exhibitions The Visitors By John Merigaian, is public art for New Hope Trailhead Park which is in the final stages of installation. Object as Subject By Tom Shields, Penland artist and recent NC Arts Council Fellowship winner. The exhibition, shown at the Cary Arts Center, reclaims old chairs to create the personal and cultural stories behind the furniture people's lives. Mr. Shields also gave a gallery talk during his installation and residency. In Clothes We Remember Part of the Community Residency, artist Jan-Ru-Wan, began the project last year with workshops and video documentary. For the duration of the project, members of Cary Teen Council documented the process by interviewing community members who donated clothing, filming the workshops and interviewing workshop participants. The final documentary will celebrate the unique stories from Cary's community!
