Hopkins strives to convey the beauty of the world she sees. The collection is inspired by places she has traveled or of household items mixed with fruit and flowers. Kenneth Neilsen: Functional Art Pottery Page-Walker Arts & History Center Thursday, November 20, 2014–Saturday January 2, 2015 Artist Reception: Sunday, December 6 | 2–4 p.m. Medium: Ceramics Kenneth Neilsen has been making functional art pottery for 35 years. All pieces are hand-thrown or hand built. He specializes in color combinations of different glaze patterns and enjoys creating new recipes. He believes that pottery should be alive, using bright colors on his pieces to create movement. Vignettes of Europe: Deanne Hooker Herbert C. Young Community Center Gallery Friday, September 25–Monday, November 30 Artist Reception: Friday, September 25 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Watercolor paintings The artist's watercolors are primarily architecturally details and close-ups of windows, doorways, arches, and pathways throughout Europe. Some are from photos she took on her travels in England, Scotland, Hungary and Austria. Other paintings are from photographs she saw in travel magazines or from TV travel shows. Deanne Hooker's watercolors are her reinterpretation of photographs and in her unique style. Rediscovery: J.J. Raia Cary Senior Center Monday, September 21–Friday, October 23 Artist Reception: Friday, September 25 | 6–8 p.m. Medium: Photography Rediscovery is an exhibition of past works. Many of them were taken during the artist's early years in photography and re-worked with new technology available today. "I am re-imaging the works while rediscovering the joy of when I first took the photos". October Cary Photographic Artists 8th Annual Open Juried Photography Exhibition Cary Senior Center Thursday, October 29–Friday, December 18 Artist Reception: Friday, October 30 | 6–9 p.m. Medium: Photography This will be the Cary Photographic Artists Eighth Annual Open Juried Photography Exhibition. The Cary Photographic Artists formed in January 2007 as a club dedicated to learning, teaching, and sharing photographic art. It is the only club in Cary focusing on photography as a viable fine art form. Red Ribbon Student Poster Contest Principal's Hall Cary Arts Center Friday, October 30–Tuesday, December 2 Artist Reception: November 4 | 6 p.m. Medium: Mixed media posters Each year area middle school students express their creativity during Red Ribbon Week, by creating posters that help promote drug and alcohol awareness. This program is a joint sponsorship of the Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department and the Cary Police Department.
