Water demand for the quarter averaged approximately 18.9 million gallons per day which was 0.5 million gallons per day higher than the same period in 2014. Turbidity Definition: a measure of the cloudiness or clarity of water. It is one of the many indicators of treatment plant performance. Turbidity Optimization Award In May, the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Facility (CAWTF) was awarded the Turbidity Optimization Award by NCDENR Public Water Supply Section. The award is given annually to water treatment facilities that meet goals for achieving higher levels of turbidity removal. The Town strives to provide our customers with high quality drinking water and this marks the fourth time in five years that CAWTF has received the award. Did you know? Reclaimed water is a valuable resource produced from wastewater that is highly treated using not only a bioligical nutrient removal and filtration, but disinfection with ultra-violet light and sodium hypochlorite. Reclaimed water demand for the quarter averaged approximately 40.2 million gallons per month, which was 5.4 million gallons per month higher than the same period in 2014. Sanitary Sewer System The sanitary sewer/wastewater collection system is made of an immense network of pipes, pump stations and manholes. miles of pipeline wastewater pump stations manholes 917 43 25,000 17.8 million gallons of water conveyed daily through Town treatment facilities. The Town closely monitors and tracks sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) in accordance with regulatory requirements. At the completion of the 2014/2015 annual reporting period, the Town reported an 86% decrease in SSO volume and 57% decrease in the number of SSOs as compared to the previous five years.
