SK8-Cary SK8-Cary partnered with a local skate park to plan and host part of the Bangers and Smash Skate Tour, which will wrap up in July. The Master Plan for SK8-Cary was adopted by Council, providing a clear picture for the future of this park. Hosted the 2015 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship for the 7th consecutive year. The University of Tampa took home the title. USA Baseball successfully held their annual Tournament of the Stars event (presented by Major League Baseball) in late June, bringing in the top 144 high school players in the nation to compete. The Town hosted 16 different college games during this quarter, including the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team exhibition games in late June versus Chinese Taipei. USA Baseball National Training Complex Cary Tennis Park Cary Tennis Park hosted the Southern Senior/Adult Hardcourt Open Championships in April with 51 adults participating from across the state. USTA National Campus Championships was held at the Tennis Park with 64 college club teams from across the country. Cary Spring Junior Open Tournament was held in April with 137 juniors participating in this event. The ACC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships were held in April. ACC coaches, players and elementary school children participated in a Community Outreach event as part of the Championships on Wednesday, April 22. In collaboration with Specialized Recreation, Abilities Tennis was offered this spring with 171 participants! This is an increase of 96 players from last year! The Town partnered with the Towns of Apex, Garner and City of Raleigh to host the 2015 Wake County Senior Games with over 600 participants ages 55+ competing in athletic and arts competitions during the month of April. The Cary Senior Center hosted a free National Senior Fitness Day in May for participants ages 55+ to try a variety of exercise programs from weight training to zumba to yoga. The 9th Cary Senior Center Annual Yard Sale was Saturday, June 20. The sale drew over 1,000 shoppers and 184 volunteers logged 614 hours to raise $6,000 for the area clubs and the Center. The Cary TeenCounsel also participated in the event helping with the set-up and during the sale. Bond Park Community Center hosted AARP Tax Assistance for 1186 federal tax returns and 1194 state returns. Bond Park is the second largest assistance site in the state and the largest in the district which includes Wake, Granville, Durham and Franklin counties! At Dog Days of June, the Town partnered with Second Chance Pet Adoptions to offer a fun-filled day for dogs and owners. The event had 48 vendors offering canine friendly goods, 23 competitors in the Skyhoundz Dog Disc Competition. The event provided 135 rabies vaccines and 61 microchips with over 500 spectators and visitors throughout the day. Community Recreation STEM Camps at Middle Creek Community Center have been a huge success in June. Over 140 campers participated in the various STEM camps offered by Engineering for Kids and Play-Well TEKnologies. From Kids Software to Electronic Game Design to Jedi Engineering, campers created, built and programmed a variety of activities! Cary Pickleball Doubles Tournament was held at Bond Park Community Center for the third year. The event had 66 participants (40% increase from 2014) in the two day event. Participants traveled from South Carolina and California to join NC pickleball players!
