Cary Arts Center The Marvelous Music Series concluded in May with a performance by the "Malpass Brothers." The series soldout five of the six concerts this year. The total attendance for the series was 2,447. The Cary Arts Center hosted "The Ceilidh Festival" in April with a celebration of Celtic music and dance to a nearly full house. Applause! Cary Youth Theatre presented "The Phantom Tollbooth," a play for youth performed and designed by Cary area youths. en plein air Paint the Town, Art Auction & Gala The second annual Gala was a great success with 30 regional artists painting scenes of downtown's landscapes and architecture. Twenty- eight Downtown businesses exhibited the paintings until the Art Auction and Gala on May 29 at the Cary Arts Center. Over 300 people attended the Auction and Gala; paintings sold generated $8,060 from the silent auction with some of the proceeds benefiting the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Relief for Recreation Scholarship Fund. Koka Booth Amphitheatre Over 35 events and concerts have taken place this season at the Amphitheatre ranging from concerts such as Old Crow Medicine Show, Alabama Shakes, Robert Plant and Weird Al to movie nights, private rentals, a new Tuesday Toddler series and the NC Symphony Summerfest series. The Amphitheatre's 15th season was celebrated with a reception at the June 13 NC Symphony Summerfest event. Attendees included past and present employees, Council officials and special guests that have played an important role in the Ampitheatre's history. The Amphitheatre is currently on target to meet the goal of hosting 80 events as well as budget expectations. Tuesday Toddler Series A new series started on the lawn and Crescent of the Amphitheatre on select Tuesday mornings. The first program was very popular, drawing 1,200 participants. This new program brings activity to the facility during a traditionally under-used time.
