The 911 phone system was upgraded to Next Gen Compliant Airbus Vesta Phone System in April. This upgrade improves public emergency communication services in an increasingly wireless society by enabling the public to transmit text, images, video and data to the 911 Center. A backup 911 Center location was established at Fire Station 6, however to ensure redundancies, the Town has the capability to establish backup locations anywhere in Town if the need arises. The backup location has eight working phones and CAD laptops to ensure complete duplication. Emergency Communications Upgraded Cary 911 Center Expands Services to Accept Emergency Reports via Text Message Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint cellular customers within Cary Town Limits can now text reports of emergencies to the Town's 911 Emergency Communications Center. Simply open a new text message, enter "911" as the recipient, and specify your exact location and emergency in the text message. At this time, only text - not images or videos - is accepted. In 2014, the Town received over 67,100 requests for emergency services, of which nearly 60 percent were made from mobile phones.
