New Station, LLC was approved to operate the cafe/concession area of The Cary Theater. The company currently owns and operates BREW Coffee Bar in Raleigh and will open a similar concept, BREW at The Cary Theater, which will fulfill the concession needs of the theater and open a full-time coffee shop. Due to a new law, this lease will go before Council for a second time on November 19 to meet the new legal notice time period, but work on the space will begin in the interim. The Chatham Street Chow Down food truck rodeo scheduled for July had an increased footprint spanning Chatham Street from Harrison Avenue to Walker Street in order to accommodate additional trucks and people. Unfortunately, the Chatham Street Chow Down scheduled for early October was cancelled due to weather. The Town closed on two properties, the final townhome at 208 Walker Street and 207 S. Harrison Avenue. Cofounders Capital and Cary Cofounders Lab space on the third floor of The Cary Theater has been in full operation for approximately three months. In that time, they have made three investments in tech startups with the expectation to close on a fourth for a total investment of just over $1 million. The Cofounders Lab currently has 12 companies working out of their space. A new restaurant, Kababish Cafe, opened in the former Unvined location at 201 W. Chatham Street. And after two years in Downtown Cary, Gather closed their location to move to a micro- space in Raleigh. Chatham Street Wine market has been announced as the new tenant for 111 W. Chatham and will operate as a wine retail shop with tastings and food pairings. They anticipate opening the end of October. Downtown Cary Website Overhaul: Project Update The two-year project to create the 6th generation of www.townofcary.org is on budget and on schedule with a launch planned before the end of 2016. We've contracted with two California firms to help with the project. The first, Vision Internet, has built hundreds of websites and we're excited about the new capabilities their content management system will offer. They're also responsible for design or "the look" of the site. The second vendor, Digital Deployment, is developing the site's information architecture and site map - how things will be arranged on the site to maximize ease of use. These two companies, along with our interdepartmental staff team, Council's Information Services Advisory Board, and hundreds of interested users are engaged. Throughout the fall and into this winter, we are gathering user experiences and preferences through a series of surveys - the next of which runs through November. Continuing progress with GIS/ESRI The Town has made significant progress with the implementation of the new enterprise GIS system from ESRI. In October, the Town launched a new and improved "Maps Online" GIS web page. Several of the maps are now using the ESRI platform. This webpage and these maps are responsive and "mobile friendly." The GIS team continues to work to bring the last few maps over to the new platform and will continue to develop new maps as we move forward with the GIS migration. Additionally, this new platform has enabled Town staff to start using mobile devices to collect, edit and use GIS data in the field. Two such applications, BMP Inspections and Pedestrian Structures Inventory, allow staff to streamline their workflows and receive inventory information from the field in real-time. ESRI was also used to run extensive analysis on the new FEMA flood plain data for Stormwater Division. This analysis was used to produce comparison maps, as well as identify affected property owners. Staff used the data to send letters to affected property owners before the public meetings.
