January Robert Cassanova: Dispatch from Vick-Benson Farm—A Visual Communiqué from the Family Farm Fred G. Bond Metro Park Community Center Monday, January 4-Monday, February 29 Artist Reception: January 22 | 6-8 p.m. Medium: Photography Robert Cassanova's black & white and color photographs of scenes from the family farm in Eastern North Carolina capture visions of picturesque old barns, weathered houses, and patterned landscapes. The rough, coarse textures of weathered, knotty wood siding and old doors beckon the viewer to recall farm life during the early 1900s. The slow collapse of these old wooden structures is a metaphor for the return of orderly, man-made structures to the complexity of natural decay. Le Touquet & Town of Cary Children's Cultural Exchange: Getting to Know Me Town Hall Gallery Through Friday, January 22 Medium: Mixed media The art in this exhibition is produced by children in grades kindergarten through eight who live in Cary and in our sister city of Le Touquet, France. The theme of the exhibit is "Getting to Know Me." The art of Cary's children was sent to Le Touquet, where it was displayed during the summer of 2015 in a joint exhibit with the French children. The joint exhibit now travels to Cary. For more information, visit www.sistercitiesofcary.org. Cary Arts Center Instructors: Synesthesia—Connecting the Senses Cary Arts Center, Principal's Hall Through Friday, January 22 Medium: Mixed Can you see sounds, smell colors, or taste shapes? This exhibition invites us to participate in a "synesthetic experience"—to extend the horizon of our sensory perception through the complementary power of art and science.
