Demonstration includes how to fabricate a hollow-form box ring and prong-setting Cabochon ring. Students will provide their own materials. Some metals and wire are available for purchase at the Cary Arts Center. Prerequisite: Beginning Metals and Jewelry class. Instructor: Hsiang-Ting Yen Fees: $114(R) $144(N) (5 classes) 90987 Mon May 2-Jun 6 6:30-9:30 p.m. (no class May 30) Intro to Lapidary— Cabochons (age 16 & up) Learn basic skills to plan your design; select material; and use machines and tools to cut, shape, and polish semi- precious and precious gemstones. Students will create Cabochons in variations of shapes for use in jewelry designs. Tools are provided for use. Metals and stones are available for purchase through the Cary Arts Center. Each class will have a subject to paint using both classic techniques and new methods. Studies will include landscapes, still lifes, and water scenes using composition, color mixing, drawing, and line. The supply list will be shown on your receipt. They are perfect for the beginning artist, precise for the commercial illustrator, and expressive for fine artists. Learn about the materials and techniques and how colored pencils can be partnered with watercolor and colored papers. The supply list will be shown on your receipt. Instructor: Eric McRay Fees: $84(R) $109(N) (6 classes) 91595 Thu Feb 25-Mar 31 7-9 p.m. Wire Wrapping: Intermediate (age 16 & up) This class is for students who have taken the introductory class or have a basic knowledge of wire wrapping. The class will build on the introductory class and will introduce students to more complex techniques as we make a pendant and a ring. A $15 supply fee is payable to the instructor at the first class. Tackle soldering for building structure and volume. Refine introductory metals skills and complex fabrication. Push ideas through jewelry, small containers, or sculptures. Cabochon Stone bezel setting will be covered. Metals are available for purchase at the Cary Arts Center. Prerequisite: Beginning Metals at Cary Arts Center. Instructor: Linda Simpson Fees: $101(R) $131(N) (5 classes) 90982 Tue Apr 5-May 3 6:30-9:30 p.m. Cuttlefish Casting (age 16 & up) Cuttlefish casting is a simple and traditional metal-casting technique that takes advantage of the splendid properties of a finely porous, bone-like internal organ. The finished product has a unique wood-grained looking texture. Tools will be provided. Students will have a one-hour break for lunch each day. Metals can be purchased from the Cary Arts Center.
