You will learn composition, set-up, brush types and handling, color-mixing and theory, as well as several application methods such as underpainting, glazing, scumbling, and broken color. The supply list will be shown on your receipt. Instructor: Michael Polomik Fees: $70(R) $91(N) (4 classes) 91561 Tue, Thu Jan 19-28 7-9:30 p.m. Continuing Acrylics (age 16 & up) Explore the more advanced possibilities of acrylic. Following a brief rundown of basics, you will gain more in-depth knowledge of color theory, composition, and surface preparation; the benefits of more expensive materials; incorporating other media; and miscellaneous tips and tricks. The supply list will be shown on your receipt. CAPTURING THE OUTDOORS EN PLEIN AIR Want to paint outdoors but you're unsure where to begin? Have you been painting outdoors for a while but don't always come home with a painting that you're happy with? Learn to capture those fleeting moments of changing light and outdoor beauty. Most of this class will be held outdoors painting en plein air. Students will pay a $150 deposit to secure a place in this workshop, with the balance due on March 23. Fees: $550 (5 classes) 91821 Mon-Fri Apr 18-22 9 a.m.-4 p.m. COMPOSING THE LANDSCAPE ON CANVAS Learn how to combine the fundamentals of landscape painting with solid compositional principles to take you closer to realizing your own style and artistic voice. Create your own landscape painting in class, receiving individual critique and tips on how to apply the principles learned to your style of painting. Students will pay a $150 deposit with the balance due on July 20. Fees: $550(R) $550(N) (5 classes) 91846 Mon-Fri Aug 15-19 9 a.m.-4 p.m. ACRYLICS Introduction to Abstract Painting (age 16 & up) Explore the many ways that abstractionists create dynamic and sophisticated large paintings. Use acrylic paints to spray, stamp, splatter, scribble, and scrape paint. Color composition and different styles of abstraction from cubism to minimalism will be explored. The supply list will be shown on your receipt. Instructor: Eric McRay Fees: $105(R) $135(N) (6 classes) 91600 Mon Jan 11-Feb 22 7-9:30 p.m. (no class Jan 18) NEW! PAINTING WITH OILS WITHDRAWALS A full credit will be granted upon receipt of a written request at least 7 days prior to the first day of an art workshop, class, or camp.
