DREAMFEST 2016 January 15-18, 2016 Each year we recognize and celebrate the life, work, and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. DREAMFEST 2016 is a partnership between the Town of Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department, the Town of Cary Spruce Program, with the support of the MLK, Jr. Task Force of Cary. All events are free and open to the public. MLK, JR. DREAMFEST: WOMEN OF ACTION GATHERING Friday, January 15 | 7 p.m. Page-Walker Arts & History Center Join the 6th Annual WFWP/WOA Gathering in fostering positive partnerships and relationships. Keynote speaker Dr. Josephine Brown, a Weight Management Specialist, will share her perspective of New Year/New You to encourage and empower change. The evening will also include inspiring performances. MLK, JR. DREAMFEST: INTERNATIONAL DIVERSITY SUMMIT Saturday, January 16 | 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Cary Arts Center Hosted by Martin Luther King III and Dr. Christine King Ferris, the sister of the late Dr. King, this summit will offer a day of dedication, communication, and, most of all, inspiration. The event will include leaders from across our community, religious organizations, and major corporations for panel discussions on cultural awareness and sensitivity and the need for diversity in the workplace, church, and the community. MLK, JR. DREAMFEST: AN ARTS TRIBUTE TO MARTIN Saturday, January 16 | 7 p.m. The Cary Theater In celebration of Dr. King's birthday, we are honored to present performances by Gail Jackson, accomplished soprano, and The Gifted Arts, Inc., a non-profit organization that aims to bridge the opportunity gap and build confidence in youth by creative expression. This program will be followed by a free showing of Disney's "Selma, Lord, Selma" at The Cary Theater at 9 p.m. MLK, JR. DREAMFEST: SELMA Sunday, January 17 | 2 p.m. The Cary Theater Selma is a passionate, commanding, and compelling movie about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his civil rights march in 1965 from Selma, Alabama, to the state capital of Montgomery. This special showing will conclude with a Q & A session. MLK, JR. DREAMFEST: DREAM OF DEMOCRACY MARCH 2016 Monday, January 18 | 10 a.m. Downtown Raleigh Cary residents are invited to join other Triangle residents at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March in downtown Raleigh. MLK, JR. DREAMFEST: DAY OF SERVICE 2016 Monday, January 18 | 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. Middle Creek Community Center The MLK, Jr. Day of Service is a great way to give back to your community. Volunteers will spend the afternoon doing a variety of hands-on tasks to help maintain and beautify the area around Middle Creek Community Center. Please be prepared to get dirty!
