Anatoly Larkin Saturday, January 23 | 3 p.m. Take a ride on a musical discovery with pianist Anatoly Larkin and learn how to use your artistic skills to create a new piece of music. Dr. Larkin will show you music's "exciting gems" and will engage young audience members to assist in improvising a new work that will premiere during this performance. Larkin's recent and upcoming projects include a presentation of piano works by Russian composers in their early 30s, chamber performances with cellist Jonathan Kramer and clarinetist Fred Jacobowitz, and collaborations with composers John Starosta and Craig Bove. Atlantic Coast Theatre Presents The Tortoise and the Hare: The Musical Saturday, March 19 | 3 p.m. Atlantic Coast Theatre For Youth puts an updated twist on Aesop's beloved fable The Tortoise & the Hare. As the story goes, Bunni Hare is quick and wins every race, so how can anyone compete, especially someone like Thomas Tortoise? The Wizard of Oz Presented in Partnership with Cary Players Cary Arts Center Friday & Saturday, April 15-16 & April 22-23 | 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 17 & 24 | 3 p.m. Special Family Show on Saturday, April 23 at 3 p.m. There's no place like home—and there's no place like the Cary Arts Center to enjoy the classic fantasy story The Wizard of Oz. Audiences will fondly recognize the colorful characters in this stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum's story of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and Toto as they journey through Oz doing battle with The Wicked Witch of the West. Music and Lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg will be blended with upbeat dance numbers and clever staging, guaranteed to surprise and delight the entire family. Billy McGuigan's Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience Friday, April 1 | 7:30 p.m. Enjoy this live-request concert experience where the audience gets to pick the set list from more than 200 Beatles' classics. During the show, Billy, Matthew, and Ryan McGuigan will pull request cards—completed by you prior to the show—out of a hat and chat with the audience members about the reasons for their requests.
