World Voice Day Tuesday, March 29 | 7-10 p.m. World Voice Day is a day of celebration of the human voice. Performers, teachers, and preachers need healthy voices to do their jobs, but we all need our voices to connect us to the world. Join the vocal health experts of Duke Voice Care Center to learn about how the voice works, how to keep your voice healthy and strong, and how to treat voice problems. This year's celebration will feature educational learning sessions, demonstrations, games, prizes, and a vocal health fair. Special guest Scotty McCreery will receive the 2016 Patrick D. Kenan Award for Vocal Health and Wellness and will share his secrets for keeping his voice healthy. SHADE Friday & Saturday, January 8 & 9 | 7 p.m. Sunday, January 10 | 3 p.m. This BLACK IRISH performance of SHADE will explore friendships, strangers, lovers, exes, and those we can't see or touch as the dancers and audience are immersed in a world of color, vibration, smell, sound, and feeling. If one could smell color, hear color, feel color, and see vibrations in color beyond just seeing the obvious (its 'shade'), what would that experience be like? This neurological phenomenon is known as synesthesia. The music will seem vaguely familiar but refreshingly abstract as each composed musical aspect is a deconstructed and reformatted pop, jazz, hip hop, or country tune representing a 'shade' of color. For more information, visit www.iamblackirish.com. * Check out the Cary Arts Center's Instructor's Art Exhibition, Synesthesia, presented in conjunction with SHADE. More information on this exhibition can be found in the Gallery section of this guide.
