Bluegrass Camp (age 8-16) Set your feet to tapping and learn one of Carolina's most popular music styles! Taught by veteran bluegrass musicians, this camp builds musical skills and confidence, with creativity and collaboration. Camps culminate in a performance at the June 24 Starlight Concert. Campers provide their own instruments. Combine camps for a full- day experience. Fees: $93(R) $121(N) (5 classes) BLUEGRASS MANDOLIN Whether you are just starting to explore the mandolin or have been playing for a while, this camp will challenge you at your skill level. This is a great opportunity to learn and improve your mandolin technique alongside peers with a similar interest in bluegrass music. Instructor: Charles Pettee 92941 Mon-Fri Jun 20-24 9 a.m.-noon T1 BEGINNING BLUEGRASS FIDDLE If you play but are not yet comfortable with tuning, bowing and finding notes on a fingerboard this camp is for you. Skills covered include basic bluegrass style, bowing tips and tricks, and more. By Friday, we will work up a bluegrass tune for performance. Instructor: Pattie Kinlaw 92937 Mon-Fri Jun 20-24 9 a.m.-noon T1 BEGINNING BLUEGRASS SONGWRITING Students learn tips for capturing and generating song ideas, how to express ideas through music and lyrics, and how to construct a song. Participants will brainstorm, write, revise, and compose their own songs. No songwriting experience necessary. Instructor: Lynda Dawson 92940 Mon-Fri Jun 20-24 1-4 p.m. T1 BLUEGRASS GUITAR Learn new tunes this summer! Whether you are starting to explore the guitar or have played for a while, this camp will inspire you. Improve your guitar technique alongside peers with a similar interest in bluegrass music. We will work up a bluegrass arrangement for performance. Instructor: Charles Pettee 92936 Mon-Fri Jun 20-24 1-4 p.m. T1 NEW! INTERMEDIATE BLUEGRASS FIDDLE Grab your fiddle and learn new tunes! This camp is for students who have mastered basic violin skills and can tune their instruments, keep time, play the principal scales, and play with confidence, or have completed Beginning Bluegrass Fiddle a previous summer. We will work up an arrangement for performance. Instructor: Pattie Kinlaw 92938 Mon-Fri Jun 20-24 1-4 p.m. T1 INTERMEDIATE BLUEGRASS SONGWRITING Students delve deeper into song composition, expressing ideas through music and lyrics, and thinking critically about song construction and revision. Students should have prior songwriting experience or have completed Beginning Bluegrass Songwriting a previous summer. Instructor: Lynda Dawson 92939 Mon-Fri Jun 20-24 9 a.m.-noon T1 Bluegrass Jam Camp (age 10-17) This camp is for intermediate fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and upright bass students looking to take their bluegrass music to the next. Learn jam etiquette, back-up, lead, harmony, and improvisation. We'll jam and perform at Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival. Students provide their own instruments. Steeped in history and mystery, spend a full week with hands on drums. Learn about folkloric music from the village, engage in creative self-expression, and participate in ancient traditions that foster fun and promote wellness. Instruments are provided.
