December The Heart of the Holidays celebration and Tree Lighting Ceremony had over 650 in attendance. The Gifting Tree Project moved to Town Hall Campus due to the Downtown construction for its fourth year. Over 2,000 votes were cast, which included online voting. Veterans Freedom Park hosted the annual Veterans Day Remembrance event, with over 350 people in attendance. November Fire Station 2, the newest station, is a 13,395 square foot, two-story building that houses both an engine and rescue company. In addition to its two trucks and 27 firefighters, Station 2 has additional space to store reserve apparatus (engine or truck) and two fire poles that allow easy access to the apparatus floor from the second floor and aid quick turnout times for the firefighters. Mayor and Council were on hand for the dedication on December 18. Speakers included Dutch native Saskia Leary and Lt. Col. Dianne Jinwright, United States Air Force (retired), both Cary residents. In addition, members of The Old North State Brass Band performed patriotic music and refreshments were served following the ceremony.
