Reclaimed water is a valuable resource produced from wastewater that is highly treated using not only a biological nutrient removal and filtration process, but also disenfected with ultra-violet light and sodium hydrochlorite. Reclaimed water demand for the quarter averaged approximately 25.4 million gallons per month, which was 1 million gallons per month greater than the same period in 2014. For the calendar year 2015, average day reclaimed water demand was 1.2 million gallons per day, which was 0.2 million gallons per day higher than average day demand in 2014. Cary's three wastewater treatment facilities treated a combined average daily total of 17.1 million gallons per day for 2015. In 2015, Cary's wastewater treatment facilities removed more than 2 million pounds of nitrogen and more than 300,000 pounds of phoshorus from wastewater that was beneficially reused as fertilizer through the application of thermally dried biosolid pellets, marketed as "Enviro Gems." Cary's thermal biosolids drying facilities treated and processed 5,160 dry tons of biosolids during 2015. 4th Quarter Traffic Activity Traffic Stops Citations Issued Vehicle Crashes 6,378 1,934 1,302 There were a total of 29 Project PHOENIX events hosted or participated in partnering communities throughout the quarter.
