On November 21, 2015 the Cary Police Department was awarded the Meritorious Accreditation with Excellence by the Commission for the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies. Chief Godwin and Accreditation Manager Kathleen Sanfratello attended the Commission hearing in Florida. This is the second occasion the Cary Police has received the designation, which is awarded to agencies that not only meet the standards but exhibit through their actions the principles of CALEA while delivering service to the community. DID YOU KNOW? Criminal Investigations Activity On October 8, the Cary Police arrested a suspect for multiple burglaries in District One and Two. The suspect also has pending burglary charges from Raleigh and Wake Forest police departments. In November, Cary Police executed a search warrant for a suspect in connection to five commercial burglaries. The investigation involved agencies from Garner to Orange County. Both of the suspects were taken into custody during the search warrant. In total, the two suspects face two pending charges and the number may still grow. On November 25, Cary Police was notified by New York City Police Department that they had one of our suspects in custody related to a string of burglaries from retirement communities in Cary during July. The suspects would pose as nurses and target the elderly. Detectives in Cary worked with their counterparts in California and federally. Several states have plans to extradite the suspect, including N.C. Currently, the suspect will first be extradited to Florida where she may be connected to a homicide in a Florida retirement community. DID YOU KNOW? Reports indicate that suspects entered UNLOCKED vehicles in at least 66% of cases where victims reported items stolen from inside their motor vehicle. This trend applies to all days of the week, all hours of the day, and across all neighborhoods. Please help us combat crime -- Lock your vehicle every time!
