9 Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Performing Arts Applause! Cary Youth Theatre Applause! Youth Theatre programs explore and develop theatre skills and encourage participants to share ideas, think creatively, and work collaboratively. Our curriculum includes classes and camps in creative drama, acting, musical theatre, technical theatre/design, and offers multiple performance opportunities throughout the year. Come "Be Somebody" with Applause! All Applause! programs are held at Cary Arts Center unless otherwise noted. Acting/Performance Improv Troupe (age 12–18) Learn the basics of sketch comedy, from building character relationships, settings, and scenes to playing off your ideas and the ideas of others. Then perform with your team on the last day of class! Location: The Cary Theater Instructor: Renee Wimberley Fees: $124(R) $154(N) (8 classes) 96047 Sat Sep 10–Oct 29 10 a.m.-noon Playwriting (age 12–18) Examine the fundamentals of playwriting— including character, dialogue, conflict, and action— and use these and other elements of scene structure to inspire an original scene or play. Instructor: Katy Koop Fees: $105(R) $135(NR) (6 classes) 96314 Wed Sep 21–Oct 26 7–9 p.m. Drama Workshop Series (age 13–18) Expand your skills in character development, acting technique, and performance styles as we rehearse a piece for public performance. Instructor: TBA Fees: $124(R) $154(N) (5 classes) 95687 Sat Oct 15–Nov 12 1–4 p.m. Second-Level Acting/ Performance Participants must have completed a prerequisite class or have participated in at least one Applause! mainstage production. Acting Intensive (age 14–18) Learn how to use Stanislavsky's famous methods to break down and analyze scenes and monologues and apply these concepts to your performance and develop an understanding of the mind-body connection to acting. Prerequisite: Drama Workshop Series. Auditions (open to age 13–18): Wed, Sep 7, 5–9 p.m. Participants will be asked to read from the script and do group scene work.
