16 September–December 2016 Cary Senior Center Computer Learning Intro to Macintosh Computers Apple's Macintosh computers provide an excellent alternative for home computer users because of their ease of use and enhanced security. In the three classes, you will learn: 1) the basics of the Macintosh operating system, including the file management system, the menus and preferences, 2) using the included applications and 3) using the online Mac App Store, and other trusted sources, to obtain applications and the best ways to purchase a Mac. Bring you Mac laptop. Fees: $15(R) $20(N) (3 classes) 95576 Mon/Tue/Thu Nov 7–10 1:30–4 p.m. APPLE COMPUTER These programs usually take place in Classroom 302 unless otherwise stated. iOS Basic: Intro to iPad and iPhone This course will focus on mobile devices from Apple to illustrate their capabilities and underlying concepts. In this course you will be shown how to set up these devices and be provided with a brief overview of the many applications (apps) available including the Find My iPhone app. Bring your iPad and/or iPhone along as well as your Apple ID and password. Fees: $5(R) $6(N) (1 class) 95572 Wed Sep 14 1:30–4 p.m. 95573 Wed Oct 12 1:30–4 p.m. 95574 Wed Nov 16 1:30–4 p.m. Getting to know Siri Siri is an Apple iPhone and iPad personal assistant app. It uses natural language to answer questions, make recommendations, and send requests to services such as OpenTable, Google Maps, TaxiMagic and more. Google (via Android) has introduced a similar app and Microsoft has added one to Windows 10. This seminar will describe this technology and how to best use it. Fees: $5(R) $6(N) (1 class) 95575 Wed Nov 23 1:30–4 p.m. E Computer Learning Cary Senior Technology Classes Join our computer classes that are designed by, and for, senior adults. These classes feature a system which includes small class size, hands-on experience (each student works at a computer!), trained teachers and on-site coaches providing additional assistance. All instructors are volunteer senior adults! If you are interested in volunteering with the computer program, you are encouraged to call (919) 469-4081. To take any of the classes, you must be 50 or older. Scholarships are available for class fees; please call (919) 469-4081 for more information. All students are required to bring a 1GB (or larger) thumb drive (flash drive) to classes or you can purchase one at the front desk for $10 each!
