34 REGISTER ONLINE: classweb.townofcary.org VISUAL ARTS PART TWO Teen Ceramics Kids at the Wheel I (age 10–14) Learn all aspects of wheel thrown and hand-built pottery from construction to decoration, working half the time on the wheel and half the time hand building and decorating thrown pieces. This class prepares you to use the ceramic studio during self-directed open studio time, which is available with parental approval. Toolkits are provided. Clay must be purchased from the center for $0.85/lb plus tax. Learn new hand-lettering styles with an introduction to the tools of calligraphy: India ink and dip pen. Explore ways to apply decorative lettering to note cards, bookmarks, magnets, and other projects. Supplies included. Students may choose to make a pendent, a pair of earrings, a fashion pin, or other jewelry accessories. Copper pieces fired during workshop. Beginners and returning students welcomed. Copper pieces can be purchased from the Art Center. MATERIALS/SUPPLIES MORE WAYS TO PAR TICIPATE! c Youth Sewing and Textiles Studio The Cary Arts Center offers a variety of sewing classes to learn new skills and techniques. Successful completion of one of our Beginning Sewing classes qualifies students to purchase a Sewing/Textiles Membership Pass to access the studio and use the equipment to work on individual projects. Open Studio for youths is scheduled on Thursday evenings from 5–9 p.m. Please note the studio is not available on some Thursday evenings due to other programming.
