Prerequisite: Fused Glass, Beginning Instructor: Sarah Cawn Fees: $77(R) $100(N) (3 classes) 96686 Wed Nov 16–Dec 7 6–8:30 p.m. Metals and Jewelry Beginning Metals and Jewelry (16 & up) Learn to saw, file, texture, hammer, solder, polish, and other basic metalsmithing techniques while creating small sculptures, earrings, or pendants. Use hot and cold fabrication techniques to emboss, rivet, embellish, and pierce; then solder with an acetylene torch. Metals are available for purchase at Center. Class satisfies eligibility for Open Studio Membership Pass. Instructor: Linda Simpson Fees: $135(R) $165(N) (6 classes) 96581 Tue Sep 6–Oct 11 6:30–9:30 p.m. Intro to Lapidary– Cabochons (16 & Up) Learn basic skills to plan, select materials, and use machines and tools to cut, shape, and polish semi- precious and precious gemstone. Students will create cabochons in various shapes for use in jewelry designs. Tools are provided for use. Metals and stones are available for purchase through the Cary Arts Center. Learn how to use tools and the basic techniques needed to get started making a wire-wrapped pendant with a gemstone bead and a wire-wrapped ring. There is a $10 supply fee payable to the instructor at the beginning of class. Successful completion of a Beginning Metals class qualifies students to purchase a Metals Studio Card to access the studio and use the equipment to work on individual projects.
