Learn how to capture sunlight, create deep shadows, and create luminous color. Create paintings using a limited palette, complimentary colors, and a thick application of paint. A supply list will be provided on your receipt. Learn to create a unique work of art that looks like real art instead of a copy of a photo. Learn to translate your favorite images into original works of art that express your personal vision. Instructor: Eric McRay Fees: $88(R) $114(N) (5 classes) 97453 Mon Nov 21–Dec 19 7–9:30 p.m. ENCAUSTIC Introduction to Encaustic Painting (age 16 & up) Create wax-painted works of art! Pigmented beeswax, melted on a heated palette and painted while in a hot liquid state, hardens immediately and must be fused with a heat gun. Techniques such as scraping, incising, transferring, and collating will be used to create unique paintings. You will purchase your first panel from the instructor at approximately $12 in cost. Other supplies are included. You will learn how to make a silver ring with a bezel set stone setting, a decorative silver chain bracelet, and a soldered hollow-formed pendant. Tools will be provided and you will receive a material purchase list from instructor after registration. Students will provide their own materials. Some metals and wire are available for purchase. Prerequisite: A beginning Metals and Jewelry class at Cary Arts Center. Instructor: Hsiang-Ting Yen Fees: $114(R) $144(N) (5 classes) 96587 Wed Nov 30–Dec 28 6:30–9:30 p.m. Painting ACRYLICS Introduction to Abstract Painting (age 16 & up) Explore the many ways that abstractionists create dynamic and sophisticated large paintings. Use acrylic paints to spray, stamp, splatter, scribble, and scrape paint. Color composition and different styles of abstraction from cubism to minimalism will be explored. A supply list will be provided on your receipt. Hands-on exercises are designed to increase understanding of basic concepts. A supply list will be provided on your receipt. Following a brief rundown of basics, continuing discussions will cover more in-depth color theory, composition, surface preparation, benefits of more expensive materials, incorporating other media, and miscellaneous tips and tricks.
