Topics include nautical language, types of boats, powerboat handling, safety and legal requirements, navigation rules, inland boating, and more. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied on the boat by an adult and wear a personal flotation device (PFD). All participants renting sailboats, canoes, or kayaks must wear a PFD at all times. Prior experience is required for sailboat rentals. BOAT RENTAL HOURS Hours of operation are subject to change. April–May & September–October Weekends & Holidays (Labor Day) 10 a.m.–6 p.m. June–August Daily 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Holidays (July 4) 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Closed weekdays with the start of Wake County traditional school year.
