WASTEWATER ANNUAL REPORT 2015–2016 15
RECLAIMED WATER IS A HIGHLY TREATED
WASTEWATER USED FOR LIMITED PURPOSES,
INCLUDING IRRIGATION, TOILET FLUSHING,
AND COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL COOLING
TOWER OPERATIONS.
Processed like all other wastewater, it is then disinfected
with ultraviolet light (UV) and treated with chlorine
before distributed in a separate set of pipes to customers
within designated service districts. By lessening the
amount of drinking water that is used, reclaimed water
reduces the maximum daily demand from the Cary/Apex
Water Treatment Facility.
In operation for more than 10 years, the Town has three
reclaimed water service districts: a northern, southern,
and western service area. In June 2014 a second phase
system expansion called the Jordan Lake Reclaimed
Water Project, began in the western service area. In
July 2015 the project completed and picked up where
the initial phase left off at McCrimmon Parkway and
Green Level Church Road. Approximately 12,000 feet of
new water main was installed going south along Green
Level Church Road. The second phase expansion extends
reclaimed water to area residents and businesses as well
as the Town of Cary's Thomas Brooks Park and the USA
Baseball National Training Complex.
