Join the Cary Tennis Academy, at the Cary Tennis Park. For more information on dates, times and fees, call (919) 462-2061. Registration for Academy programs is only available in person at the Tennis Park. The Tennis Park staff must approve all juniors placed in these programs. TENNIS AND ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT (TAD) (age 5–8) This program will focus on establishing a strong technical foundation, while developing basic agility and movement skills. Program members must continue to actively participate in Jr. Team Tennis and compete in local 8 and under tournaments. ACADEMY I (age 8–12) Academy I is for the player who has shown a commitment to playing USTA tournaments. Stroke development, basic strategy, and mental focus will be emphasized. Participants must meet a USTA tournament participation requirement to remain in the program. ACADEMY SELECT (age 11–18) Academy Select is designed for the established tournament junior who has aspirations of playing college tennis. Juniors must have a state and sectional ranking and be working toward a national ranking. Participants are expected to implement advanced strategies in a variety of live ball drills. JTT COMPETITION (age 8–18) Junior Competition is structured for the present high school player or those aspiring to make the team. Drills will be structured around playing situations and point development. Stroke mechanics will be stressed along with the improvement of the serve. ACADEMY TEAM (age 13–18) Academy Team is designed for the high school varsity player who wants to keep his or her game tuned-up for the upcoming season. Juniors are expected to be able to hit with spin and change direction of the ball. The player rarely double faults and is becoming an all-around player. Drills will be designed around execution, and the ability to close out points. In case of inclement weather, the decision to hold programs will be made up to an hour before the program starts. INCLEMENT WEATHER What to Bring All players will need proper tennis attire, their own racket, tennis shoes, water bottle, and sunscreen.
