Students should have successfully completed Woodworking Basics or have a good understanding of woodworking machine use and safety practices before enrolling in the intermediate courses or technique workshops. LATHE: BEYOND BASICS This class is the next step to our introductory course. Students will learn more advanced techniques and processes of turning wood on a lathe. A limited amount of turning stock is available for purchase from the Cary Arts Center. Tools are available for use. Supplies are not included. A great refresher for those who've just begun lathe turning and want more guided practice. A limited amount of turning stock is available for purchase from the Cary Art Center. It combines power- and hand-tool techniques. Advanced skills that will be practiced include dovetailing, mortise, and tenon joinery and panel glue-ups. Supplies included. You will create an attractive, curved-lid box to use for jewelry, tea, or other keepsakes. Students will use the table saw, the router table, drills, and other power tools to build and finish this box. Supplies included. It's just a base drilled to accept six glass candle holders with four contrasting hardwood feet. The result is a striking piece that you'll be proud to have in your home or give as a gift.
