REGISTER ONLINE: classweb.townofcary.org 31 MINI & HALF DAY CAMPS Electronic Game Design: Tower Defense (age 7–10) This class is a combination of our animation and web design classes. In this class students will learn the basics of animation and digital design. Students will not only create fun interactive animations but will learn the basics of web design and how to publish their animations to share with the world. This course is perfect for students with a big imagination. Location: Herbert C. Young Community Center Instructor: Engineering for Kids Triangle Fees: $120(R) $150(N) (3 classes) 103220 Wed-Fri Jul 5–7 1–4 p.m. TO Robot Olympics (age 7–10) Using LEGO ® , campers design and program robots to compete in simulated Olympic events such as a sprinting race, throwing a basketball, and shooting pucks into a hockey goal. Campers use LEGO ® Robotics and computers to learn principles of robotics, computer programming and teamwork. Campers share a computer with another camper. Location: Middle Creek Community Center Instructor: Engineering for Kids Triangle Fees: $120(R) $150(N) (3 classes) 102921 Wed-Fri Jul 5–7 1–5 p.m. TO Survivor: Engineer's Cove (age 7–10) Students will find themselves stranded on an abandoned island filled with perilous obstacles including dark caves, wild animals, cold temperatures, little food, and separation from comforts. They'll work collaboratively with tribe members on engineering-related projects aimed at surviving harsh island conditions. Only one tribe will claim the honor of Survivor: Engineer's Cove winner. Location: Herbert C. Young Community Center Instructor: Engineering for Kids Triangle Fees: $149(R) $179(N) (5 classes) 103117 Mon-Fri Jul 17–21 1–4 p.m. T4 iCode Camp (age 6–10) This camp offers a fun, interactive look at coding. Campers create virtual apps and write their own programs that they can share with friends and family. This camp makes learning to code fun and explores problem solving and programming. Location: Middle Creek Community Center Instructor: Youth Tech Inc. Fees: $125(R) $155(N) (5 classes) 103047 Mon-Fri Jul 10–14 1–3 p.m. T4 Shipwreck Island (age 6–10) Campers find themselves on a 'deserted island' where they must work together to devise means for collecting food and water, build shelters, bridges, and learn the science behind survival fun! They use the tools at hand to write messages to send in a bottle and witness a volcanic eruption. Campers eventually design a means to escape the island and come home. Location: Middle Creek Community Center Instructor: Mad Science Fees: $145(R) $175(N) (5 classes) 102924 Mon-Fri Jul 24–28 1–4 p.m. T4 Foods Around the World (age 7–10) If you like cooking, or want to learn how to cook, join Chef Laura and cook up something good from three different countries. Not only will you prepare and enjoy the food, but also learn about the country, its food, and basic nutrition. Location: Herbert C. We will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard and outline the rules of play for our game. Then we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5 ® to bring our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the class, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game. Location: Herbert C.
